2004-05 Small/Mid-Size US Firm Reviews

Firm Name Design Content Usability Interactivity Intangibles Total
Lawrence E. Feldman & Associates 8 8 8 9 7 40
My nomination list said to go to leflaw.net, which is an impressive web site. For the hell of it, I decided to go to leflaw.com, which also belongs to Mr. Feldman. Both are outstanding, and yet another example of how powerful the web can be for solos. Loaded with content, interactivity and creativity. The most uttered line I hear from small firms is “I’m just a solo” (which is supposed to mean “I can not market.”). To the next individual that recites that line, I’m going to introduce him to leflaw, dot-net, dot-com, dot-whatever.

When you’ve been looking at law firm web sites from every walk of life for as long as I have, different sites stand out as the “first” in a variety of categories. K&S is one of the original “lemon law” specialists, and took it to the web in ’96 (around the same time as pioneers like immigration law guru Siskind). They have been copied and duplicated more than some Canon copiers, but keep growing strong. Well marketed all around, the web site continues to offer up the latest and greatest. To be honest, if I bought a lemon, they would get the call, based on what I’ve seen and heard, online, on the radio and in the press. That is called effective branding.

They may be small, but they pack an online wallop. The minority-owned firm launched a new web site in conjunction with Black History Month this year. This is a great example of a small business using the web for big things. The resource links, with logos, is a standout page. There are 500-attorney firms that do not have as good a layout of practice areas and publications as these three attorneys.
Durrani Law Firm 7 8 7 8 5 35
Another immigration law firm that is using technology to the fullest. And the site is updated with loads and loads of information. I was convinced that the six headlines dated on the review day was a scam of some sort. So, I went back again to see. No scam. They really were updating with ferocity. Loved the checklists, and the interactivity throughout.

Call it Philly-bias, but in trying to decide which of a group of small firm Saturno-developed web sites I would review in this category (they were all good…barran.com, schwabe.com, sussmanshank.com), I went with the homeboys. You see, there are lots and lots of good law firm web sites in the great Northwest, but in my favorite city, the law firm web sites…well…they are underwhelming at best. Yet, V&K has developed a presence that the local biggies can only hope to match. The firm has branded itself in the market with effective advertisements, trade shows and sponsorships. Now, they have it going online. Check out the strong “forms” to go with excellent content and the famous “web site protector.” The 20 or so lawyers market like a firm of 200.
