2004-05 International Firm Reviews

Firm Name Design Content Usability Interactivity Intangibles Total

The home page could use a little re-org, but if you want to really see the depth here, start with the site map. The “Counsel’s Compass” is a great section. And the “community” and “online products” sections are deep as well. But, I’ll ask again, “where are the associates?” Not online. Otherwise, top-drawer.
International Law Office of Dr. Parviz Savrai and Associates 7 6 5 5 7 30
In a difficult part of the world, I found the soothing classical music in Dr. Savrai’s flash site quite peaceful. For a solo effort, it is excellent. While I probably would not find myself in Tehran any time soon, this site reminds you that the practice of law and the dissemination of information is global indeed. I also find some satisfaction in knowing that the IMA reaches attorneys everywhere.
Allen & Overy 5 6 4 5 8 28
The site continues to be kept up to date. For a few years, the firm has offered up www.newchange.com, a place for dealrooms, caserooms and document drafting. They have a definite belief in using technology for all aspects of legal practice, not just the business development elements that traditionally accompany the “main web site”, which provides lots of pdfs to choose from, including most of the firm’s brochures, newsletters and articles. While there is a personalization component, I would still like to see some areas add some beef, and the attorney bio db get a few more features. Time for a little facelift.

When you arrive to the home page, you could be in Chicago, New York, Philly or L.A.—but you are not. You’re smack in the middle of downtown Tehran. It is a relatively new site, so I’ll excuse the empty “articles” section. But, the list of links is helpful. The “news” too. This Iran-based boutique is a friendly reminder of the power of the first two Ws in the World Wide Web.
Billiet & Co 4 6 7 5 5 27
A lack of dates on many items left me wondering about how current things were. But, it appears that articles are uploaded from time to time, with pdfs and word docs to grab. My poor lack of foreign language capabilities (outside of some Hebrew and a tiny, tiny bit of German) probably limits my own understanding. With offices in Brussels and Paris, Billiet is translated into three languages. WILL ALWAYS LOVE…knowing that the directions to the firm would get me there while taking the plane, train or car…the searchable “interesting judgements” section. WILL ALWAYS HATE…frames…in any language.
