2003 Small/Mid-Size US Firm Reviews

Firm Name Design Content Usability Interactivity Intangibles Total
Hall Dickler 8 3 4 2 3 21
The idea of the virtual file has been done before, with varying levels of success. It works here for Hall Dickler. In this case, the “files” are nicely organized. The topics are explained. The highlighted “What’s New” memo and pages would be great, if they were new. On the review date, the newest item was over three months old. Make sure people see this site as an active file, not a dormant one. The Adlaw is clearly the focus of content. The rest of the site is desperate for more detail and more contributions of content from within. You can and should be doing much more. And some of the basics need sharpening as well.
Kramer & Connolly 3 5 3 4 4 19
Not the prettiest site in the world, but Irwin Kramer compliments his work in the local media with details on the firm. Included are some different sketches—like those courtroom sketches you see on TV. I don’t think you can hire Greta Van Susteren to represent you, but Kramer is another story. A little unusual, but his is Kramer’s Law.
Patricia Marie Dugan 5 3 3 3 5 19
Why is this site on the list of 25? It highlights something many attorneys fail to recognize. Sometimes it is the niche practice or niche site that can lead to a business development payoff. We all know that canon law has probably never been a hotter topic than this last year—for positive or negative reasons. I’m not sure I’ve seen any other lawyer web sites featuring the attorney and the Pope himself! Trying on his hat! Patricia attended an IMA course on building a web site a few years back. When someone asked me about Canon Law this year, her site came to mind. A nice, low-cost, solo effort.
Kahn, Dees 3 5 3 3 3 17
It is rare that you see a law firm domain name with numbers in it. The firm name has two ks and two ds in it. Get it? Located in Evansville, Indiana, this firm of about 30 lawyers, situated on Main Street, probably looks the way they intend it. In other words, you are not in midtown Manhattan. While the site feels worn, it was kept current. And while the search engine was not working, they actually let you know that it is broken (how temporary is temporary?) and direct you to the site map for help. It would be worth jazzing things up and updating the back-end.
Singleton Law Firm 4 2 3 3 3 15
While I know little about this four-attorney, Louisiana law firm, I have some guesses. They wanted some type of presence on the web. Little work, minimal budget. “Just make us look good,” someone might have said. This site has a lot of room for growth and improvement. But I said that about some horrid large firm sites in LA, and they have few excuses. The foundation is set. You need to do more.
